Windshield Reseal

All vehicles

  1. WARNING: Before beginning any service procedure in this section, refer to Safety Warnings in section 100-00 General Information. Failure to follow this instruction may result in serious personal injury.

  1. Refer to: Cowl Panel Grille (501-02 Front End Body Panels, Removal and Installation).

Vehicles with rain sensing wipers

  1. Refer to: Rain Sensor (501-16 Wipers and Washers, Removal and Installation).

All vehicles

  1. Refer to: Interior Rear View Mirror (501-09 Rear View Mirrors, Removal and Installation).
  1. On both sides.
    Refer to: A-Pillar Trim Panel (501-05 Interior Trim and Ornamentation, Removal and Installation).
  1. On both sides.
    Refer to: B-Pillar Trim Panel (501-05 Interior Trim and Ornamentation, Removal and Installation).

  1. 1. If equipped with roof opening panel, release the seven magnets.
  1. 1. If equipped with panoramic roof opening panel, release the seven magnets.

  1. NOTE: Windshield removed for clarity.

    Place two blocks of wood spacing the headliner away from the windshield.
    General Equipment : Wooden Block
  1. Clean the interior and exterior of the windshield glass surface with glass cleaner.
    Material : Sika Urethane Metal and Glass Primer / Sika 206 G+P
    Material : Dow Urethane One Step Glass Primer / Betaprime™ 5500/5500A/5500SA
    Material : Motorcraft® Ultra-Clear Spray Glass Cleaner / ZC-23 (ESR-M14P5-A)
  1. Cut the urethane adhesive applicator tip to specification.

  1. NOTE: Use a high-ratio, air, electric or battery-operated caulk gun to apply the urethane adhesive with less effort and a continuous bead.

    NOTE: Make sure all gaps in the urethane adhesive are smoothed into one continuous bead.

  1. Apply urethane adhesive over the existing urethane adhesive.
    Material : Betaseal™ Express Dow Urethane Adhesive
    Material : Sika Tack ASAP Urethane Adhesive

  1. NOTE: Allow the urethane adhesive to cure for a minimum of one hour before testing for air or water leaks.

    After the urethane adhesive has cured, check the windshield seal for air or water leaks. Add urethane adhesive as necessary.
    Material : Sika Tack ASAP Urethane Adhesive
    Material : Betaseal™ Express Dow Urethane Adhesive

  1. NOTICE: Make sure not to crease the headliner when removing the wood blocks.

    NOTE: Windshield removed for clarity.

    Remove the blocks and position the front portion of the headliner.
  1. 1. If equipped with roof opening panel, connect the seven magnets.
  1. 1. If equipped with panoramic roof opening panel, connect the seven magnets.
  1. All.
