Parking, Rear and License Plate Lamps

  • If the brake lamp is also inoperative or always on,
    REFER to: Stoplamps (417-01 Exterior Lighting, Diagnosis and Testing).
  • If the parking lamp only is inoperative or always on, INSTALL a new BCM .

B1445:11 Rear Park Lamps Output: Circuit Short to Ground   GO to Pinpoint Test A

  • If the brake lamp is also inoperative,

  • If the parking lamp only is inoperative, INSTALL a new BCM .

B1448:15 Right Rear Stop/Position Lamp Output: Circuit Short to Battery or Open
  • If the brake lamp is also inoperative or always on,

  • If the parking lamp only is inoperative or always on, INSTALL a new BCM .

B10F4:11 Right Front Position Light: Circuit Short to Ground Sets when the BCM detects a short to ground from the RH front parking lamp output circuit.

PINPOINT TEST A : ONE OR MORE PARKING, REAR, OR LICENSE PLATE LAMPS ARE INOPERATIVE
A1   DETERMINE IF ALL THE PARKING LAMPS ARE INOPERATIVE
  • Ignition OFF.
  • Place the headlamp switch in the parking lamps on position.

Are all the parking lamps inoperative?

Yes GO to A21
No For front parking and/or side marker lamps, GO to A2
For luggage compartment lid parking, rear side marker and license plate lamps, GO to A10
For rear parking lamps, GO to A17


A2   CHECK FOR VOLTAGE TO THE FRONT PARKING AND SIDE MARKER LAMP
  • Place the headlamp switch in the off position.
  • Disconnect: LH Headlamp C1509A.
  • Disconnect: RH Headlamp C1510A.
  • Place the headlamp switch in the parking lamps on position.
  • Measure:

A4   CHECK THE FRONT PARKING AND SIDE MARKER LAMP SUPPLY CIRCUIT FOR A SHORT TO GROUND
  • Place the headlamp switch in the off position.
  • Disconnect: BCM C2280C.
  • Measure:

  • Disconnect: LH Front Park/Turn Lamp C1023.
  • Disconnect: RH Front Park/Turn Lamp C1043.
  • Place the headlamp switch in the parking lamps on position.
  • Measure:

  • Place the headlamp switch in the off position.
  • Disconnect: LH Headlamp C1509B.
  • Disconnect: RH Headlamp C1510B.
  • Measure:

      LH Front Park/Turn Lamp

A9   CHECK THE FRONT PARKING LAMP CIRCUITS FOR AN OPEN

Are the resistances less than 3 ohms?

Yes CHECK the harness for open or shorted circuits and damaged or pushed-out pins. If the harness is not OK, REPAIR the harness. If the harness is OK, INSTALL a new headlamp assembly.
REFER to: Headlamp Assembly (417-01 Exterior Lighting, Removal and Installation).
No REPAIR the circuit.


A10   DETERMINE WHICH PARKING LAMPS ARE INOPERATIVE
  • Ignition OFF.
  • Place the headlamp switch in the parking lamps on position.

Are the luggage compartment lid, rear side marker and license plate lamp all inoperative?

Yes GO to A11
No If only the luggage compartment lid parking lamps are inoperative, GO to A12
If the rear side marker and license plate lamps are inoperative, GO to A14
If a single rear side marker or license plate lamp is inoperative, GO to A15


A11   CHECK VOLTAGE CIRCUIT TO THE PARKING LAMPS FOR A SHORT TO GROUND
  • Place the headlamp switch in the off position.
  • Disconnect: Reversing Lamp C451.
  • Disconnect: BCM C2280F.
  • Measure:


    Positive Lead Measurement / Action Negative Lead
      C451-1   Ground



Is the resistance greater than 10,000 ohms?

Yes GO to A12
No REPAIR the circuit.


A12   CHECK VOLTAGE CIRCUIT TO THE PARKING LAMPS FOR AN OPEN
  • Measure:

Is the resistance less than 3 ohms?

Yes If the luggage compartment lid, rear side marker and license plate lamp are all inoperative, GO to A21
If only the luggage compartment lid parking lamps are inoperative, GO to A13
No REPAIR the circuit.


A13   CHECK THE LUGGAGE COMPARTMENT LID PARKING LAMPS GROUND CIRCUIT FOR AN OPEN
  • Measure:


    Positive Lead Measurement / Action Negative Lead
      C451-4   Ground



Is the resistance less than 3 ohms?

Yes INSTALL a new reversing lamp.
REFER to: Reversing Lamp (417-01 Exterior Lighting, Removal and Installation).
No REPAIR the circuit.


A14   CHECK THE REAR SIDE MARKER AND LICENSE PLATE LAMP SUPPLY CIRCUIT FOR VOLTAGE
  • Place the headlamp switch in the off position.
  • Disconnect: LH Rear Side Marker Lamp C4422.
  • Place the headlamp switch in the parking lamps on position.
  • Measure:

Is the voltage greater than 11 volts?

Yes REPAIR the ground circuit.
No REPAIR the voltage supply circuit.


A15   CHECK THE REAR SIDE MARKER OR LICENSE PLATE LAMP SUPPLY CIRCUIT FOR VOLTAGE
  • Place the headlamp switch in the off position.
  • Disconnect: Inoperative LH Rear Side Marker Lamp C4422.
  • Disconnect: Inoperative RH Rear Side Marker Lamp C4423.
  • Disconnect: Inoperative License Plate Lamp C4046.
  • Place the headlamp switch in the parking lamps on position.
  • Measure:

  • Place the headlamp switch in the off position.
  • Disconnect: Inoperative LH Rear Lamp C412.
  • Disconnect: Inoperative RH Rear Lamp C415.
  • Place the headlamp switch in the parking lamps on position.
  • Measure:

A19   CHECK THE REAR PARKING LAMPS SUPPLY CIRCUIT FOR A SHORT TO GROUND
  • Place the headlamp switch in the off position.
  • Disconnect: BCM C2280D.
  • Measure:

      LH Rear Lamp

Yes GO to A20

A20   CHECK THE PARKING LAMPS SUPPLY CIRCUIT FOR AN OPEN
  • Measure:

Is the resistance less than 3 ohms?

Yes GO to A21
No REPAIR the circuit.


A21   CHECK FOR CORRECT BCM (BODY CONTROL MODULE) OPERATION
  • Disconnect and inspect all BCM connectors.
  • Repair:
    • corrosion (install new connector or terminals – clean module pins)
    • damaged or bent pins – install new terminals/pins
    • pushed-out pins – install new pins as necessary
  • Reconnect the BCM connectors. Make sure they seat and latch correctly.
  • Operate the system and determine if the concern is still present.

Is the concern still present?

Yes CHECK OASIS for any applicable Technical Service Bulletins (TSBs). If a TSB exists for this concern, DISCONTINUE this test and FOLLOW TSB instructions. If no Technical Service Bulletins (TSBs) address this concern, INSTALL a new BCM .
REFER to: Body Control Module (BCM) (419-10 Multifunction Electronic Modules, Removal and Installation).
No The system is operating correctly at this time. The concern may have been caused by module connections. ADDRESS the root cause of any connector or pin issues. CLEAR the Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs).



The Parking, Rear, Or License Plate Lamps Are On Continuously


Refer to Wiring Diagrams Cell 92 for schematic and connector information.

Normal Operation and Fault Conditions

B10F3:15 Left Front Position Light: Circuit Short to Battery or Open Sets when the BCM detects a short to voltage from the LH rear side marker lamp output circuit.
B10F4:15 Right Front Position Light: Circuit Short to Battery or Open Sets when the BCM detects a short to voltage from the RH rear side marker lamp output circuit.
B1445:15 Rear Park Lamps Output: Circuit Short to Battery or Open

Sets when the BCM detects an a short to voltage from:

  • the license plate lamps output circuit on vehicles not equipped with luggage compartment lid parking lamps (part of reversing lamp)
  • the license plate and luggage compartment lid parking lamps output circuit on vehicles equipped with luggage compartment lid parking lamps (part of reversing lamp)
B1446:15 Front Park Lamps Output: Circuit Short to Battery or Open Sets when the BCM detects a short to voltage from the front parking lamps output circuit.


Possible Sources


PINPOINT TEST B : THE PARKING, REAR, OR LICENSE PLATE LAMPS ARE ON CONTINUOUSLY
B1   CHECK THE BODY CONTROL MODULE (BCM) PARKING LAMP OUTPUT CIRCUIT FOR A SHORT TO VOLTAGE
  • Ignition OFF.
  • Disconnect: BCM C2280C (For front parking and/or side marker lamps).
  • Disconnect: BCM C2280F (For luggage compartment lid parking, rear side marker and license plate lamps).
  • Disconnect: BCM C2280D (For rear parking lamps).
  • Ignition ON.

Do the parking lamps continue to illuminate?

Yes For luggage compartment lid parking, rear side marker, rear parking and license plate lamps, REPAIR the affected parking lamp output circuit.
For both the front side marker and front parking lamps, REPAIR the affected parking lamp output circuit.
For only front side marker lamps, INSTALL a new headlamp assembly.
REFER to: Headlamp Assembly (417-01 Exterior Lighting, Removal and Installation).

For only the front parking lamps, GO to B2
No GO to B3


B2   CHECK THE FRONT PARKING LAMP SUPPLY CIRCUIT FOR A SHORT TO VOLTAGE
  • Ignition OFF.
  • Disconnect: LH Headlamp C1509B.
  • Disconnect: RH Headlamp C1510B.
  • Ignition ON.

Do the parking lamps continue to illuminate?

Yes REPAIR the circuit.
No INSTALL a new headlamp assembly.
REFER to: Headlamp Assembly (417-01 Exterior Lighting, Removal and Installation).


B3   CHECK FOR CORRECT BCM (BODY CONTROL MODULE) OPERATION
  • Disconnect and inspect all BCM connectors.

Are the resistances less than 3 ohms?

Yes INSTALL a new front park/turn lamp.
REFER to: Front Marker Lamp (417-01 Exterior Lighting, Removal and Installation).
TEST the system for normal operation. If the condition still exists, INSTALL a new headlamp assembly. REFER to: Headlamp Assembly (417-01 Exterior Lighting, Removal and Installation).
No REPAIR the circuit.
