Catalytic Converter

Removal

WARNING: Before beginning any service procedure in this section, refer to Safety Warnings in section 100-00 General Information. Failure to follow this instruction may result in serious personal injury.

NOTE: Removal steps in this procedure may contain installation details.

1. Refer to: Health and Safety Precautions (100-00 General Information, Description and Operation).
   

1. With the vehicle in NEUTRAL, position it on a hoist.
   Refer to: Jacking and Lifting - Overview (100-02 Jacking and Lifting, Description and Operation).
   

1. Remove the muffler and tailpipe.
   Refer to: Muffler and Tailpipe (309-00A Exhaust System - 2.0L EcoBoost (184kW/250PS) - MI4, Removal and Installation).
   

1. If equipped, remove the rear driveshaft. Refer to section 205-01 Driveshaft.
   

1. Remove the HO2S . Refer to section 303-14 HO2S .
   

1. Remove the catalyst monitor sensor. Refer to section 303-14 Catalyst Monitor Sensor.
   

1. NOTICE: Removing the catalytic converter-to-turbocharger clamp may be difficult. Use care not to scratch or gouge the catalytic converter flanges or sealing surfaces. Scratches and gouges may cause exhaust leaks.

   NOTE: Note the position of the catalytic converter-to-turbocharger clamp for installation.

   NOTE: Discard the catalytic converter-to-turbocharger clamp and gasket.

Installation

1. NOTE: Do not tighten the 2 catalytic converter-to-bracket nuts at this time.

1. NOTE: Make sure the new catalytic converter-to-turbocharger clamp is positioned over both the catalytic converter inlet flange and the turbocharger outlet flange.

   Position the catalytic converter-to-turbocharger clamp as noted during disassembly.
   Torque : 20 Nm

1. NOTE: If installing a new catalytic converter, the catalytic converter will come with a new transmission bracket. Tighten the 2 transmission bracket nuts to 25 Nm after tightening the 2 catalytic converter-to-bracket nuts.

   Torque : 25 Nm

1. Torque : 20 Nm

1. Install the catalyst monitor sensor. Refer to section 303-14 Catalyst Monitor Sensor.
   

1. Instal the HO2S . Refer to section 303-14 HO2S .
   

1. If equipped, install the rear driveshaft. Refer to section 205-01 Driveshaft.
   

1. Install the muffler and tailpipe.
   Refer to: Muffler and Tailpipe (309-00A Exhaust System - 2.0L EcoBoost (184kW/250PS) - MI4, Removal and Installation).
