Component Bleeding

NOTE: Master Cylinder

NOTE: When a new brake master cylinder has been installed, or the system is emptied or partially emptied, it should be primed to prevent air from entering the system.

  1. NOTICE: If the fluid is spilled on the paintwork, the affected area must be immediately washed down with cold water.

    NOTE: Make sure the area around the master cylinder cap is clean and free of foriegn material.

  1. General Equipment : Master Cylinder Bleeding Set
  1. Have an assistant pump the brake pedal slowly until clear bubble free fluid flows from the brake tubes.
  1. Remove the General Equipment : Master Cylinder Bleeding Set

NOTE: Brake Caliper or Wheel Cylinder

NOTE: It is not necessary to do a complete brake system bleed if only a brake caliper or wheel cylinder was disconnected.

  1. NOTICE: If the fluid is spilled on the paintwork, the affected area must be immediately washed down with cold water.

    NOTE: Make sure the area around the master cylinder cap is clean and free of foriegn material.

  1. General Equipment : Fluid Container
    1. Have an assistant pump the brake pedal at least 2 times and then hold firm pressure on the brake pedal.
    1. Loosen :
      Bleeder screw   180°
    1. While the assistant maintains pressure on the brake pedal, tighten the bleeder screw.
    1. NOTE: Due to the complexity of the fluid path within the rear integral parking brake calipers, it is necessary to apply and release the parking brake during the bleed procedure.

      If bleeding a rear integral parking brake caliper, apply and release the parking brake 5 times.
    1. Repeat bleeding until clear, bubble-free fluid comes out
    1. Tighten the bleeder screw to specification.
