Transmission

Removal

All vehicles

  1. Refer to: Jacking and Lifting - Overview (100-02 Jacking and Lifting, Description and Operation).
  1. Remove the following items:
    1. Refer to: Air Cleaner (303-12B Intake Air Distribution and Filtering - 2.0L EcoBoost (184kW/250PS) - MI4, Removal and Installation).
    2. Refer to: Air Cleaner Outlet Pipe (303-12B Intake Air Distribution and Filtering - 2.0L EcoBoost (184kW/250PS) - MI4, Removal and Installation).
    3. Refer to: Battery Tray (414-01 Battery, Mounting and Cables, Removal and Installation).
  1. Refer to: Front Subframe (502-00 Uni-Body, Subframe and Mounting System, Removal and Installation).

  1. NOTE: If an internal problem is suspected, drain the transmission fluid through a paper filter. A small amount of metal or friction particles may be found from normal wear. If an excessive amount of metal or friction material is present, the transmission will need to be overhauled.

    Torque : 12 Nm

FWD

AWD

  1. Refer to: Transfer Case (308-07C Transfer Case - Vehicles With: 6-Speed Automatic Transmission - 6F35, Removal).

All vehicles

  1. Special Tool(s) : 100-001 (T50T-100-A) Slide Hammer , 205-241 (T86P-3514-A) Remover, Halfshaft , 205-290 (T89P-3415-B) Remover, Halfshaft (Plate)
  1. Refer to: Starter Motor (303-06B Starting System - 2.0L EcoBoost (184kW/250PS) - MI4, Removal and Installation).

  1. NOTE: If transmission disassembly or installation of a new transmission is necessary, remove the bracket.

  1. NOTE: On vehicles equipped with AWD , only remove the studs if transmission disassembly or installation of a new transmission is necessary.

  1. Special Tool(s) : 303-F072 Support Bar, Engine , 303-290B-19 Adapter for 303-290B , 303-290-05A Adapter for 303-290A

  1. NOTICE: Secure the transmission to the transmission jack with a safety strap.

    General Equipment : Transmission Jack
  1. Special Tool(s) : 307-566 Retainer, Torque Converter

  1. NOTE: If transmission disassembly or installation of a new transmission is necessary, remove the transmission mounted transmission fluid cooler tubes.

Installation

All vehicles

  1. NOTE: If removed, inspect the transmission mounted transmission fluid cooler tube backing rings and seals for damage and install new backing rings or seals if necessary.

    1. Backing ring (7J324)
    1. Seal (7D258)
      Material : Motorcraft® MERCON® LV Automatic Transmission Fluid / XT-10-QLVC (WSS-M2C938-A) (MERCON® LV )
    1. Torque : 11 Nm
    1. Torque : 9 Nm
  1. Special Tool(s) : 307-566 Retainer, Torque Converter
  1. Material : Motorcraft® Multi-Purpose Grease Spray / XL-5 (ESB-M1C93-B)
  1. General Equipment : Transmission Jack
    Torque : 48 Nm
  1. Torque : 30 Nm
  1. Torque : 80 Nm
  1. Torque : 9 Nm
    1. Material : Threadlock and Sealer / TA-25
      Torque : 80 Nm
    1. Torque : 25 Nm
    1. Material : Threadlock and Sealer / TA-25
      Torque : 133 Nm
  1. Torque : 48 Nm
    1. Torque : 8 Nm
    1. Torque : 25 Nm
    1. Torque : 25 Nm

  1. NOTE: Tighten in the sequence shown.

    Torque : 125 Nm
  1. Install new torque converter nuts.
    Torque : 40 Nm
  1. Refer to: Starter Motor (303-06B Starting System - 2.0L EcoBoost (184kW/250PS) - MI4, Removal and Installation).

  1. NOTE: If the transmission has been replaced or overhauled, the halfshaft seals do not need to be replaced.

    Refer to: Halfshaft Seal LH (307-01B Automatic Transmission - Vehicles With: 6-Speed Automatic Transmission - 6F35, Removal and Installation).
  1. Special Tool(s) : 205-461 Protector, Differential Oil Seal (pair)
  1. Remove Special Service Tool : 205-461 Protector, Differential Oil Seal (pair)

  1. NOTE: When seated correctly, the halfshaft bearing retaining clip can be felt as it snaps into the differential side gear groove.

AWD

  1. Refer to: Transfer Case (308-07C Transfer Case - Vehicles With: 6-Speed Automatic Transmission - 6F35, Installation).

FWD

  1. NOTE: If the transmission has been replaced or overhauled, the halfshaft seals do not need to be replaced.

    Refer to: Halfshaft Seal RH - Vehicles With: FWD (307-01B Automatic Transmission - Vehicles With: 6-Speed Automatic Transmission - 6F35, Removal and Installation).
  1. Special Tool(s) : 205-461 Protector, Differential Oil Seal (pair)
  1. Remove Special Service Tool : 205-461 Protector, Differential Oil Seal (pair)
  1. Torque :
      Stage 1:  5 Nm
      Stage 2:  25 Nm
      Stage 3:  25 Nm
    1. Torque : 5 Nm
    1. Torque : 20 Nm

All vehicles

  1. Refer to: Front Subframe (502-00 Uni-Body, Subframe and Mounting System, Removal and Installation).
  1. Torque : 9 Nm
  1. Torque : 25 Nm
  1. Install the following items:
    1. Refer to: Battery Tray (414-01 Battery, Mounting and Cables, Removal and Installation).
    2. Refer to: Air Cleaner Outlet Pipe (303-12B Intake Air Distribution and Filtering - 2.0L EcoBoost (184kW/250PS) - MI4, Removal and Installation).
    3. Refer to: Air Cleaner (303-12B Intake Air Distribution and Filtering - 2.0L EcoBoost (184kW/250PS) - MI4, Removal and Installation).
  1. Refer to: Selector Lever Cable Adjustment (307-05B Automatic Transmission External Controls - Vehicles With: 6-Speed Automatic Transmission - 6F35, General Procedures).
  1. Refer to: Transmission Fluid Drain and Refill (307-01B Automatic Transmission - Vehicles With: 6-Speed Automatic Transmission - 6F35, General Procedures).
  1. After completing the repairs perform the Misfire Monitor Neutral Profile Correction procedure.

  1. NOTE: If a new solenoid body is installed, the solenoid body strategy must be updated.
